Things changed when I updated to the latest BIOS version - with the very same hardware - Windows 98 didn't boot anymore. (Windows 98SE runs on a PCI Vooodoo 3 3000) After two years I'm very satisfied about how 98SE behaved, didn't have to install it twice, in spite of numerous hardware changes: I swapped many different sound cards, SSDs, PCI-E video cards and so on. I have a Ryzen 3900x, now it's 2 yrs old but Windows 98 worked out of the box on last gen hardware when I bought my system.
